"Burang" Meaning Drought
"Represented within this artwork is the story of drought. The absence of water and the absence of all that it brings.
Living in Wiradjuri country, we experience all seasons - from flood, to the harshness and cruelty of drought. This piece expresses a yearning for water. It is the dry and desolate land that we walk upon. It is the dust, captured by the dry wind as it grabs and pulls at the ever-hardening Earth. It is the dust that settles on our faces when we hope for a drop of water to wash it away.
This piece is a reminder that our precious Earth will not forever reciprocate. We cannot take from Mother Earth without returning what she gives us. We must treat her with care, for she is our great giver. I dedicate this piece to those that live and work on the land. I hope you care for her as she cares for you.
